A loving person is now another star shining brightly in the sky and still protecting those he loved.
Robert Melvin Gray, a native of Round Hill, Virginia, passed away peacefully, with family by his side, after a short illness on March 27, 2017.
Melvin was born on April 17, 1931, in Round Hill, Virginia, to the late Edgar Fenton Gray and
Margaret Helen Fewell Gray. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Margaret, Virginia, Thomas, Ernest, and Mary Bowman.
He was a loving and unselfish person; always willing to help others and putting them first before
himself. Melvin enjoyed going for car rides, collecting coins, working puzzles, and playing bingo.
Many individuals called him “Bo” and he was affectionately called “Uncle Boat” by his niece,
Kimberley.
Melvin worked in Herrell’s General Store and for the Loudoun County Public School system, where he worked as a bus driver, custodian, and retired from the Maintenance Department after 42 years of service.
For many years, he was a volunteer fireman with the Round Hill Fire Department.
Melvin is survived by three brothers, Leonard, Russell and Edward (Pete), sister-in-law Mary, and
three sisters, Patsy Sheaffer, Frances Dorsey (Jim), and Judy Fry, one Aunt, Katie Poland of
Charlottesville, Virginia, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 31, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Hall’s Funeral Home, Purcellville,
Virginia, with funeral services being held on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 11 a.m. with interment at Ebenezer Cemetery, Bluemont, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Scott Martz, Christopher Martz, Paul Comanduras, Eddie Gray, David Sheaffer, and
Bobby Dennis.
